I took a photo of a friend in 2014, and I've been waiting for my skill level to catch up to my vision of how I wanted her painted. I was so ready to give it another try after doing the dog painting, that I spent the entire day on it Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Start to finish, eight hours.
Back in December I found an antique frame that was perfect for how I envisioned this painting. A patina blue and gold finish hand made wood frame, with a dark crush blue velvet trimmed wood matte.

From a black and white photo, I was asked to create a black and white painting. I haven't done that in 30 years. This was a TIME CRUNCH project. Their son asked to me to create this for him, so he could give it to them for their 66th wedding anniversary. How truly amazing is that, 66 years! So when "J" asked me to do this I was excitedly wanting to, until he said I had a week. I said no at first. His story about his parents just melted my heart, and I had to say yes. Am I ever glad I did. I so enjoyed this piece. Makes me miss my guitar. Started and finished in 2 days. "J" says its an 80% likeness! I was relieved and ecstatic!
The painting is a 10x15 watercolor. "J" has an antique oval frame with the bubble glass he intends to frame it in, thus the oval. I used my favorite color, Paynes Gray, because of the various shades you get as you use it on its own. The look reminds me of the old "Silver Screen" black and white movies.
